I recently sat down and analyzed my electric bill and I determined that I am paying $0.1364 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). When you look at your electric bill you will see a rate change. On my bill the rate was $0.06516 (kWh), but that is not a true picture; don’t forget to add the distribution charge, the solar requirement charge, the default server supplier charger, the non-utility generation charge and the customer charge. When you add all those items up you get a true cost, in my case, $0.1364 (kWh).
What does that mean?
Well, let’s compare the cost of electric with the cost of LP-Gas to give us some insight on what we are really paying. Consider that one gallon of propane produces the same amount of energy (BTU) as 27 kWh of electricity. So multiplying the kWh rate ($0.1364 x 27) will result in a dollar figure equivalent for a gallon of propane to $3.68 per gallon. That is pretty expensive energy considering that LP-Gas is currently less than $2.00. Fortunately, in my case, I only use electricity for lights and a few appliances. I am saving money with my high efficiency LP-Gas furnace, water heater, dryer, and cooking stove.
If you are using electricity to heat your home, dry your clothes, cook your food or heat your hot water, you are paying way too much for that energy.
